Island info
Spanish Wells is an out island in the Bahamas that is a working Lobster fishing community with nice people. It is a clean safe island and a good way to get away from a fast paced life and enjoy island living. The beach in front of the house is all sand and shallow at low water where you can walk out for a block or two. The water is very warm in the summer and cooler in the winter. The wind is stronger in the winter and very light in the summer. The humidity is high in the summer and much less in the winter.
Cash is preferred on the island. Credit cards are accepted at most places including Food Fair, the local grocery store.
Walking the beach, sunbathing, swimming, reading a book are all nice things to do.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling is good but you need to either bring your own equipments or purchase equipment at Manuel’s Dive Shop (located at end of 14th Street). There is no scuba or snorkel equipment rental on the island.

Island Hopping is easy on the Bohengy which will take you to Harbour Island for the day or Nassau for an overnight. For rates and schedules contact the link Bahamas Ferry Service
Food
Food is available at Food Fair, the island grocery store. In addition to shopping yourself, you can call anytime to order food for delivery. ($5.00 fee + tip).
Hours: Monday – Saturday 08:00 – 17:00. The store is closed on Sundays, so if you travels bring you in after 5PM or a Sunday, you may want to arrange a delivery.
There is a small convenience store, Island Mart, open every day 08:00-20:00. Cash only. They have the only international ATM on the island.

Alcohol: “Shipyard” restaurant has a full bar. “Buddas” on 13th St is a local liquor store.
Medical
There is a clinic on the island and one Doctor (Dr. Culmer). There is not a hospital on the island.

Getting There
Part of the charm of the island is that it is remote and therefore getting there is more of a challenge than flying into a large city. Here are some options below.
Nassau Airport has new terminals and is an excellent choice when connecting to North Eleuthera.
North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) is the largest airport on North Eleuthera and the closest to the Beach House (15 min cab ride $25). Note: Governors Harbour Airport (GHB) is further away from Spanish Wells on North Eleuthera and is an expensive cab ride (approx $95).

Travel from North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) to Spanish Wells:
A cab from North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) to Jeans Bay Dock is $25 where you will pick up the water taxi which is $5 per person. The water taxi will bring you to Spanish Wells.
